The Isalo's Massif

 
Isalos' Queen, famous' exemple of 'ruiniforme' erosion Appearing at Jurassic, the massif of the Isalo is a Jurassic sandstone formation with the altitude ranges between 515 m and 1268 m, hacked erosion of deep canyons and peaks bristling with unusual shapes. The soft sandstone was dug, scraped, polished by the wind and rain, eroded to bedrock with precision. Scientists have invented a phrase to describe this morphology: ''ruiniforme''massif
Within this framework grandiose alternate grassy plains and desert stone forms of turmoil, which saw the colors of silver gray in the red-ochre over the times of the day. A veritable botanical garden in a scene from "Western", the park is home to flora and fauna particularly well suited to the rocky cliffs. The most common tree of the Isalo is "Tapia."
The rocks are home to succulent plants whose roots, trunks, stems, or leaves enmagasinent water runoff: pachypodium, aloes and euphorbias. At the bottom of the canyon, a constant humidity maintains lush vegetation, palm trees, pandanus and ferns are grouped along the rivers. The fauna of the Isalo consists of 55 species of birds, reptiles and some mammals, including lémur catta or maki, propithèque of Verraux and eulemur fauve.
 
The National Park of the Isalo beautées abounds with natural waterfalls, canyons, caves, natural pools and represents 70% of the mass of the Isalo covering a total area of 81540 hectares.
